Toyota Safety Sense Comes Standard

When it comes to standard safety no other automaker can come close to Toyota and Toyota Safety Sense. There are two Safety Sense packages, one for compact vehicles and the other is for midsize and large cars, trucks and SUV's. For compact Toyota vehicles, Toyota Safety Sense C includes Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beams. For larger vehicles Toyota Safety Sense P is comprised of Dynamic Radar Cruise, Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist function and Automatic High Beams.

For compact vehicles the Pre-Collision system used laser radar and camera to scan the road ahead for potential collisions. When a vehicle ahead is detected and a collision is possible you will get an audible alert as well as a visual alert on the instrument panel. If you don't react in a certain amount of time the Pre-Collision system will apply the brakes to slow the vehicle to avoid or reduce the impact of a crash. The Pre-Collision system on midsize and large Toyota vehicles includes pedestrian detection. The camera is specialized to detect shapes and will notify you using the same visual and audible alerts as well as apply the brakes if you do not react.

The camera is specially designed to detect visible paint markers on the road and alerts you via visual indicators and audible beeping to keep you in the center of your lane. Lane Departure Alert on midsized and large vehicles come with Steering Assist which provides you with gentle corrective steering measures if necessary. All Toyota vehicles also come standard with Automatic High Beam assist which detects oncoming vehicle high beam's or upcoming taillight's and will automatic switch your lights to low beams.

The last safety feature of Toyota Safety Sense that is only offered for large and midsize vehicles is Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Using forward-facing radar and camera Dynamic Radar Cruise Control will adjust your speed to keep you at a safe distance. Not only does Dynamic Radar Cruise Control reduce your speed but can also accelerate to get you back up to the pre-set speed.
